Ceramic mortar bowl and pestle from Maruhon Ceramics.
Maruhon Ceramics was founded in 1897 and is made with traditional techniques. (Mino ware)
Japanese mortar (suribachi) has the lines unlike that of most of the other countries. They’re made for grinding foods finely with less power, ideal for stamping with fine herbs and spices and mix.
The design is an arrangement of the 十草 ten-grass pattern, which is a traditional vertical stripe pattern that has been popular in Japan. Each one is hand-painted.
